So Spencer took us on a tour of Switzerland, mainly to the areas he served in on his mission.
Zollikofen was our first stop. It was in the district of Spencer's 4th area. He never served right in Zollikofen but we wanted to visit the temple. The Zollikofen temple is the only temple I have seen while in Europe. We are very blessed at home to have so many so close. There were only about 3 temples that were even a possibility for us to visit while we were in Europe.
Elise loved being out of the car and having the open grass to run around on.
Elise loves to smell flowers but we have to watch her because she does like to pick some too.
Burgdorf was our second stop. This was Spencer's 4th area. It is a smaller town. At least from what I saw but maybe it was just because it was so quit when we were there. I think everyone was on Ferien (holiday) while we were there.

This was a very cute train we saw in a second hand store window. Similar trains like this one are usually much more than 10 euros. We would have bought it but this shop was also on Ferien for the next week so we only got a picture of it. :(
Solothurn was our next stop. Solothurn has one of the largest armories in the world. Spencer visited it when he was on his mission but he wanted to show it to us.

Spencer made me dress up. He said he has a picture of him on his mission so we had to get one of me. I'm glad we did because who knows when or if I could again but I just felt kind of silly. Elise thought it was pretty fun though so I guess that made it worth it.
Apparently for a 2 year old this cannon was to far away to be seen without her binoculars. :)

The city Cathedral. it looked really cool but it was hard to get a good angle on it where you could see most of it. It was kind of tucked up among other tall buildings.
Then we spent the night in Mulhouse, France. Just over the boarder from Basel but we got there late and left early and forgot to take pictures.
Basel was our first stop on Saturday morning. We were there bright and early to go to what was supposed to be one of the biggest Flohmarkts (flea markets) around. It was big but not tons bigger than a few others we had been too but they had it every week so I am sure that made a difference.
The Flohmarkt (flea market) was all around the edges of a park and then children could sell things in the middle.
The city center. The red building is the Rathaus (town hall).We needed a snack even though it was only mid morning and so we bought Fleisch Gipfeli (croissants with a soft meat spread inside), very, very tasty.
We stopped in Pratteln next. This was Spencer's first area.Him and Elise are standing in front of his old apartment building.
We ate our picnic lunch at the church house on the small patch of grass. Elise loved sliding around on the grassy slope.

The castle in Pratteln. We also ended up going to a flohmarkt here too. We didn't know there was one but as we were driving around we came across it, right across from the castle.
Rheinfelden was our last stop today. It is a town that is partly in Switzerland and partly in Germany. Spencer said they used to walk across the bridge when they were here to buy groceries on the German side because they were so much cheaper.
This alley was one of Spencer's favorite. It is called Tempelgasse or Temple Lane.It is a very pretty cobblestone "lane" or alley that has vines and flowers hanging down over the walls. The pictures don't do it justice but I am sure that some of it was because of the flowery smells and sounds as well.

The Rhein River. We walked across to the Germany side and back.
The train station. A lot of buildings are just built prettier than they need to be than in the U.S. Train stations do not look like this in the U.S.
